1: Who made the first digital camera?
Fujifilm in 1988 brought out the Fuji DS-1P which could hold 10 photographs.
2: When was the 1st auto focus camera made?
In 1977, Konica produced the C35-AF point & shoot.
3: How come 35mm film takes 36 exposures?
Designed by Oskar Barnack while working with cinema film he took a length equal to the width across his open arms and turned it into a small cassette we now know as 35mm.
4: Who made the first photography?
In 1826, Joseph Nicephire Niepce, the French scientist, produced ‘View from the Window at Le Gras.
5: Who was known as ‘Weegee’?
Arthur (User) Fellig a press photographer working in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, USA. His style included following the city’s emergency services to get exclusive photos.
6: Who made the first phone with a camera?
With its 1.5-inch LCD screen, Samsung released a South Korean model in 2000.
7: What did the landscape photographer Charlie Waite do before photography?
The first 10 years were spent in television and theatre.
8: When was The Royal Photographic Society formed?
9: What is the Ken Burns effect?
Developed by the film maker Ken Burns, he designed the ability to add pan, fade, zoom and animation to digital photography.
10: Why the name Leica?
The company Leitz became known as Leica in 1986. The name Leica is made up of the first three letters of Leitz (the founder) and the first two letters of the first cameras.
11: What’s the best temperature for film and print development?
68f or 20c.
12: How did the word Camera come about?
It comes from Camera Onscura which was the name of the first device used for projecting onto a flat surface; I think you’ll find it means ‘dark chamber’.
13: What is the Zone System?
Developed by the American photographers Ansel Adams and Fred Archer, it’s a method of measuring the intensity of light when assessing exposure values in photography. Used mostly for B&W film, it places a numbered value from 0 being black to 10 being white, 5 therefore is mid grey.
14: Who made the first SD memory card.
The common SD card (secure device) was produced jointly by SanDisk, Panasonic and Toshiba around 1999.
15: What is Focus Stacking?
Focus stacking relates to a practice by which depth of field in a photography is greatly increased. It can be done manually or many cameras now do it through auto. It involves taking a series of pictures each with the focus point changed and then merging them together in post processing.
16: What happened to the 1st moon landing cameras?
Twelve Hasselblad cameras were left behind to allow them to bring back 25 kg of rock.
17: What pop star has his own photography display at the London V&A museum?
Elton John & David Furnish donated a gallery of photographs.
